Sam was raised in a godly home in Greensboro, NC, went to church every week, and yet he did not really “get it” till he began attending a Christian high school ministry called Young Life. There he heard the gospel in language and terms he could understand for the first time. There, the thrill of helping people so that they could really understand the Bible and its message was kindled in those early years. Sam was active in college ministry as a student and loved helping cut through the fog in people’s minds as to what following God was all about. He attended Covenant Seminary where he was further taught how to love God with his heart and mind. He began doing full time ministry at Winthrop University with Reformed University Fellowship. Next it was on to Charleston, SC for thirteen years as a pastor. Sam came to Grace Coastal in 2012. Nothing thrills him more than helping people who struggle to understand God finally break into the clear and love him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. He is married to Druid, and they have four grown children.

He studied classical guitar at Tennessee Technological university and received his worship-focused MDiv degree from Covenant Theological Seminary. He and his wife Katie and their four children (Kara – 7, Elena – 5, Rhys – 2, and Samwise – 1 in May) are enjoying living in the Lowcountry and getting to know their community and church family.
